Ducks At A Distance

What types of ducks/geese live around New Orleans?

My husband and I were driving through Metarie yesterday and saw a bird in the Neutral ground of W. Esplanade near the canal. It looked like a goose but it had red and orange gobbler type growth around its bill. There were a few of them as well as some other ducks that we recognized. I am wondering what kinds of bird this force have been.

New Orleans is on a north-south flyway for many birds, but I don’t know enough about the subject to even guess what birds you saw.

If the duck matches the 2nd picture from the top on the website listed below, it is a muscovy duck. They are found all over the New Orleans area around the canals and parks such as Lafreniere Park in Metairie
