Can I feed a wild muscovy duck a small amount of chicken feed once a day?

Duck is wild, lives on my pond. It’s half Muscovy, half Blue Swedish. I can’t find duck food locally. I’ve been feeding it multi-grain bread, about a slice a day. I would only feed it a small part once a day. Is chicken feed a healthier alternative to bread?

Becoming an Efficient Wild Duck Caller

There is no such thing as a born wild duck caller because it takes lots of practice in order to became an efficient caller. Fortunately, anyone from any location can become a good wild duck caller with the proper training and patience. Calling wild duck is a very vital aspect for wild duck hunting because if properly done, it can greatly improve the overall hunting efficiency of the hunter. Of course, in order to become a good wild duck caller, every hunter wants to follow some vital wild duck hunting tips:

• Purchasing a high quality call – it doesn’t matter how well prepared is the hunter or how skillful he is regarding the procedure of calling wild ducks, without using a good call all the efforts are useless and the wild duck hunting experience won’t be fruitful at all. As far as wild duck calls is concerned the expression : “ you get what you pay for “ is entirely right. A high quality wild duck call will allow the hunter to produce the entire range of sounds that a hen mallard produces. These calls will also allow the hunter to make these sounds time after time and also year after year that is why veteran hunter recommend prospect wild duck hunters not to get cheap when it comes down to purchasing a call.

• Imitating the wild duck sound ( duck call operation ) – the next order of business is about the ability of the hunter to sound just like the wild duck which means that the hunter wants to learn how exactly he can operate a wild duck call so that he will sound just like one. The key elements in this step are practice and patience because without these two parts, nothing noticeable will be accomplished. The very first thing to do is to start with the basics and get the hang of them before moving to more complex operations. Speaking of the basics, the first things to learn are the con and the feeder chuckle and these two are considered the foundation for the rest of the calls done with the wild duck caller. A very vital advice that is brought by veteran hunters and wild duck callers is to practice the entire year, not just before the wild duck hunting season starts.

• Observing the birds and adapting the calling style – the last vital step to becoming an efficient wild duck caller is to learn how to read the birds. The hunter will be chasing these animals in many different conditions which means that the hunting style wants to adapt to the hunting environment. After learning all the basics, what the hunter wants to do is to master call cadences and tempos. This will help the hunter to sound more like a wild duck ( instead of sounding like a person that is using a wild duck call ). Due to the fact that not all wild ducks sound exactly the same and they also don’t have the same tempo or volume, the goal is to sound like a lot of different wild ducks. This is possible only if the hunter masters cadence, volume variations and the tempo.

All things considered, learning how to be an efficient wild duck caller isn’t a very hard thing to do but it requires a lot of practice, patience and a good call. Besides all these, incisive for some wild duck hunting tips will surely increase the chances of becoming an efficient wild duck hunter/caller.

A Glance Into the Past: Wild Duck Hunting Decoys

Wild duck hunters have been using duck decoys to help them catch more of these small creatures for many years with noticeable success. In our days, these duck decoys are even more well loved among collectors. The main purpose of these decoys is to attract other animals into the rifle scope’s range so that the hunter can take efficient shots. An fascinating history fact is that in North America, these wild duck decoys have been used for more than two thousand years.

If somebody wants to find the oldest decoys in the world, the best place to look is at the Smithsonian Museum in the United States where they have the oldest decoys found in not only the United States, but also Canada and other North American areas. The Native Americans manufactured these decoys by hand using wood that they carved into or they used straw in order to make the wild duck shape. Several decoys that have been found are more complex than others, with more details and various colors. The more complex the decoys are, the privileged the value will be for hunters and collectors.

Wild duck decoys from 1880s to 1940s had a larger amount of complexity and point. As an example, the eyes were made of glass while the bodies were weighted for the ideal amount of buoyancy. Although the materials used for producing wild duck decoys have changed over the years, the thought of the body style hasn’t changed one bit. The modern decoys are just as efficient as the ancient versions.

Finding wild duck decoys for hunting purposes shouldn’t be a very hard thing to do as there are many online auction shops over the Internet. Be sure that you check the seller’s certificate before making such a buy because if you want to buy an antique decoy, it could really turn out to be a cheap reproduction. Flea markets and thrift shops are a good place to find wild duck decoys.

Once you have bought the right wild duck decoy for your hunting style you must know that if you plot on hunting in wetland areas and you want to ensure that the birds coming your way will glide past your decoy you must set up your duck upwind your hunting position. If you don’t do this, there is a high probability that the ducks will rest on the outer edges thus limit your opportunities for an efficient shot. In order to make sure that the wild ducks won’t catch on to your trick, it is advisable to group your decoys according to their species. This is because the birds typically tend to stay within their own groups when they rest.

All things considered, wild duck decoys are essential for duck hunters and are also well sought after by collectors. Whether you are using them for hunting purposes or you just want them for your personal pool, you need to buy a wide variety of colors and styles because you know what they say: you don’t want to have all of your ducks in one row.
