Do you reckon you know this team? Can you name the players that are on the ice in the games now? What about the coaches, have you seen them or would you recognize them beyond the ice? The Anaheim Mighty Ducks haven’t been doing so hot lately but the season isn’t yet. Here’s a small about whose doing what and where for the Ducks.

This year, the Ducks will be coached by head coach randy Carlyle, assistant coach Dave Farrish, assistant coach Newell Auburn, goaltending consultant Francois Allaire with assistant from VIH (very vital help) such as video coordinator Joe Trotta, strength and conditioning coach Sean Skahan, head athletic trainer Tim Clark, equipment administrator Doug Shearer and assistant equipment administrator John Allway.

Forwards Troy Bodie, Ryan Carter, Andrew Ebbett, Ryan Getzlaf, Chris Kunitz, Brad Larsen, Todd Marchant, Drew Miller, Travis Moen, Brendan Morrison, Rob Niedermayer, Samuel Pahlsson, George Parros, Corey Perry, Bobby Ryan and Teemu Selanne. Defensemen Francois Beauchemin, Brett Festerling, Bret Hedican, Kent Huskins, Nathan McIver, Brandan Mikkelson, Seteve Montador, Scott Niedermayer and Chris Pronger. Goalies Jean-Sebastien Giguere and Jonas Hiller.

Currently, players on injured reserve include Brad Larsen, Teemu Selanne, Francois Beauchemin and Kent Huskins. Skaters for this regular season include Getzlaf, Perry, Ryan, Pronger, Niedermayer, Selanne, Kunitz, Morrison, R. Neidermayer, Pahlsson and goalies Hiller and Giguere.

This year’s draft picks were Jake Gardiner, Nicolas Deschamps, Eric O’Dell, Justin Schultz, Josh Brittain, Marco Cousineau, Brandon McMillan, Ryan Hegarty, Stefan Warg and Nick Pryor. Perhaps there’s some mode to the madness since every single pick on this list was born in 1990, average out around six feet tall with a couple of exceptions. There may be where the similarities end since the picks fund from amateur teams from Minnetonka High, QMJHL Chicoutimi and BAIE-Comeau, OHL Sudbury and Kingston, WHL Kelowna, BCHL Westside, USDP USA U-18, SWE-JR Vasteras JR and USDP USA U-18.

This month there’s just one more home game against the Blackhawks on the 28th. In February, the Ducks will play four games at home against the Sabres, Flames, Thrashers and Kings (chronological). The rest of the February games are away with the Ducks taking on the Wild, Predators, Flames, Red Wings, Blue Jackets, Sabres, Bruins and Stars.

In March, the home games will line up the Stars, Wild, Canucks, Sharks, Predators, Coyotes, Oilers and Avalanche. The away games will take the Ducks on the road to take to the ice as visitors against the Blackhawks, Coyotes, Predators, Avalanche and Oilers.

The Ducks will round out the NHL season with April games at home against the Sharks and Stars. The last road trips for away games will be against the Canucks, Sharks and the Coyotes. It remains to be seen how the Ducks will honest but we wish them luck.

Away games will take the Predators on the ice as visitors in games against the Oilers, Wild, Stars, Red Wings, and Blues during February. In March more opportunities can take place for the Predators with home games where they will host the Oilers, Blue Jackets, Capitals, Rangers, Ducks, Sharks and Kings. In addition to the home ice games, the Predators will hit the road and play away games against the Flyers, Coyotes, Kings, Ducks, Sharks, Red Wings and Blue Jackets. By April, the standings will be nearly complete with only five games to close the season. The away games in April for the Predators include games against the Blackhawks, Red Wings and the Wild; the latter of which marks the last game of the season on Friday, April 10. Predators’ forward players on the roster include Jason Arnott, Wade Belak, Radek Bonk, J.P. Dumont, Martin Erat, Vernon Fiddler, David Legwand, Scott Nichol, Antti Pihlstrom, Jerred Smithson, Steve Sullivan, Jordin Tootoo and Joel Ward. Team defensemen players include Dan Hamhuis, Kevin Klein, Ville Koistinen, Ryan Suter, Greg Zanon and Greg de Vries. Goalies are Dan Ellis and Pekka Rinne. Commendably speaking, none of the Predators are on the injured reserve at this time, or is it just a coincidence? Perhaps so because some of the Predators have been injured and missed games. All total, the Predators have had 110 man-games lost due to injury or illness but 40 of those games stretch back to the 2006-07 season.

The Anaheim Ducks were originally called the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim. They are a professional men ice hockey team based in Anaheim, California. They are members of the Pacific Division of the Western Conference of the Inhabitant Hockey League (NHL). Within a small span, they have shown fantastic results and are the current Stanley Cup champions, after defeating the Ottawa Senators in five games post-season. The Ducks have always played their home games at Honda Center, formerly called Arrowhead Pond of Anaheim.

The Walt Disney Company formed the Anaheim Ducks in 1991. The original name was given after the film, The Mighty Ducks. This movie showed a group of teens winning a hockey game successfully.

Disney sold the franchise to Henry and Susan Samueli in 2005, which changed the name to Anaheim Ducks. In their 14 years play, the Ducks have made the playoffs five times, won two Western Conference Championships (2003 and 2007), and one Stanley Cup, 2007.

The logo is a webbed foot forming a “D” followed by the other letters of the word “Ducks” in capitals. The text is in gold with orange and black accents, giving a three dimensional appearance. The entire logo is encircled with white. The old logo, before the name changed, was an old style goaltender mask, giving the appearance of a duckbill.

Jerseys

The old jerseys used jade, aubergine (eggplant), white and gray as primary colors. After the team was bought from the Walt Disney Company, Brian Burke sought inspiration from the United States Military Academy, and gave the jersey diagonal gold, white, black, and orange stripes down the arms and waist, with the word “Ducks” on the front. The orange color pays tribute to Orange County, where Anaheim is located.

The 2007-08 jerseys, like all NHL teams, changed over to the new Reebok Edge jerseys. There is only a minor change with a small NHL crest below the neck. The official mascot for the Ducks is an anthropomorphized duck by the name of Wild Wing. He wears a Ducks jersey with 93 on the back, the year the Ducks became the NHL team.

In July, the Ducks traded childish sniper Lupul, defenseman Ladislav Smid, a 2007 first round draft pick, and a second round pick in 2008, to Edmonton in chat for the well-known defenseman Chris Pronger. The team finished the last season with 43 wins, 27 losses, and 12 overtime losses. They became third in their division. In the playoffs, they won over the Flames in conference quarterfinals and over Avalanche in the semifinals, but were defeated by the Oilers in the finals. They had a fantastic year in 2006-07, beating the Ottawa Senators to take home the Stanley Cup. The team now has new faces Todd Bertuzzi, Mathieu Schneider, Jean Sebastien Giguere and Travis Moen.

Anaheim Mighty Ducks surprised the Wings in the first round of the contest. Ducks defeated Wings in four games and credit went to the goaltending on Jean Sebastian Giguere. Dominik Hasek came back in 2003 season after one year retirement.
