They are wild. About the size of a domestic duck. Males are very nearly entirely black, including bills and feet, with a white bib, on the neck and top of the breast. The females are very dark auburn.
Seen in NJ. They come with the mallards to eat the cracked corn I throw out.

I wish I had an answer for you that was what you are looking for. We had a Pekin female and a Khaki Campbell drake. As far as I know, there’ was no successful mating between the two, because of the size difference. Also, our Pekin didn’t care for the drake, so she kept scaring him off.

I am interested in keeping some of these birds some time in the prospect, and was wondering if they would get on, and if hand raising would make them better pets. I have hand raised a duckling before with excellent results.

PETA are geese.
We hatched these in my classroom about 4 months ago from a duck egg “grab bag”. I reckon the small, dark duck is a female mallard and the larger auburn duck is a female Khaki Campbell, but what is the duck with the white and auburn pattern? Is it also a girl? Also, is its beak changing colors, because this new, mottled look took us by surprise!
