I hunt the swamp lands of south east Virginia where wood ducks and mallards are most abundant. Quite a few ducks come in but many glide right over and land a few miles away. What is something cheap and simple I could plant to help bring in more ducks

i was at a park in anderson indiana and came upon a big brown duck looking bird…it was late in the season?
and the bird looked like a duck and goose mix, and i know this is not possible…it was all auburn, long tail feathers, auburn beak and feet…it look like a duck from the neck up, but the body was too huge for a duck…but it did not have the face features that a goose has….what could it be?

Also, where can I get a guide that will tell me what game are allowed to be hunted in each season. I don’t know if anyone would know off the top of their head or not.
And one additional question… what is the fine for hunting small game out of season? Does it go per animal or what? Just curious. Really wanna get out duck hunting soon and if the fine is small enough, it maybe worth just paying it to go out for the day.
