Fear of wasps unsolved, what is the problem?

Hello

For my life as I remember it I have been terrified of wasps among all other things, even snakes and spiders (or maybe just snakes…) and it is quite embarrassing, as you would be embarrassed too if you were seen in public jumping jerking and sprinting trying to escape from a bug the size of a dime.

Anyway, I guess it all started when I was about 5 years ancient, not even in school yet, and I was at my cousin’s family reunion. We were having a fantastic time and I was so pleased to be able to play with my “huge boy friends,” or those grown-up kids I was related too.

Unfortunately, being the size and age I was, they took benefit of me and played a “harmless” trick on me, making me ride on a absolutely safe tire swing. I mean how could a tire swing be perilous? Right?

Incorrect.

The only person not knowing of what was inside of the tire swing was, sardonically, me, the ironic part being the fact that a lovely wasp nest wast lying inside the swing. I was so pleased, and me, my brother, and my cousin jumped on the tire swing.

Now, you noticed I just said that they were on it with me. Simply place, they got on, pushed the swing, and made a run for it. Currently not knowing of why they left me, I continued to have fun on the swing.

The wasp nest came off and about 30 wasps came charging towards my face. I’ll let you cut the rest of the tale together by yourself.

Anyway, ever since then, every time I saw a wasp I would simply duck, jump out of the way, run, army crawl, whatever to avoid being stung. It is absolutely hilarious watching me meet a wasp. I can hardly open my front door now because there is a wasp guarding it!

I hear the buzz of them and instantly I run about 50 yards in the other direction. I see one and if I were to do something where they are I put it off for later. Alltogether, I am absolutely terrified of wasps.

So could that childhood encounter have made me dread wasps forever? Why am I so worried of them? What can I do to break this dread?

Thanks for your help. I appreciate it.

In the meantime, if you have some more time, I have a pretty amusing tale to tell you :)

When I was 12, I went golfing out on the local course with my deathtrap brother and my grandma. We reached the 2nd hole, and yet another encounter with a wasp occured.

While making my tee shot, I seemed to have irratated a wasp somewhere near me. After I swung, I heard it and instantly went runnin’ wild.

Sardonically, this was the first time I had ever been really chased by a wasp before, and to add to the Irony this was a 500 yard fairway. Even more ironic, that wasp chased me all the way up to the green, back all the way down to the tee, through the woods and back to the golf cart. I then just rammed my foot on the gass of the cart and got the H3|| out of there!

Thanks, I appreciate it.
