Ducks At A Distance

Can anyone identify this duck?

it was lingering w/ mallards at a pond in pomona, california I tried to take photos at different angles .. as you can see from one photo it is larger and stands taller than other ducks and has a longer neck. it’s mostly black except its head is a bit green and you can see some blue in its wings. it makes really silent quacks ..the other ducks didn’t like him and pretty much avoided him

North Carolina Creatures… help identifying a sound.?

I’m from California… have only been in NC for 6 mo. I’m going out of my mind trying to identify what kind of creature is making this odd noise. It seems to be rising over the last few weeks but hadn’t heard that up until that point. We’re by the water. The intercoastal shipping canal is about 150-200 ft away. So our household is raised some, not full pilings just raised about 5 steps. The sound I am really only hearing from one location. It sounds like it’s coming from under the front porch but I don’t have a excellent view.

It sounds like a thwart between a duck and a small dog, with the slightest croaking rhythm.

I see very small frogs out there all the time and it doesn’t seem to be them. I was watching them out the window and I didn’t see them moving their throats or opening their mouths… have no thought how a frog looks when it croaks but it didn’t look like it was them.

I’m not use to the creatures at all. Kinda curious what’s making that noise!?
I chose to research it on the web. I really found a fantastic website that provided so much information about frogs and toads of NC. They even have photos and adudio of each frog’s call. I’m subdue trying to figure out which one it sounds like, there’s a couple that seem like it force be it. But I am positively confident that it is some type of frog. I had no thought that frogs made such a variety of noises. Welcome to NC!

What types of ducks are these?

We hatched these in my classroom about 4 months ago from a duck egg “grab bag”. I reckon the small, dark duck is a female mallard and the larger auburn duck is a female Khaki Campbell, but what is the duck with the white and auburn pattern? Is it also a girl? Also, is its beak changing colors, because this new, mottled look took us by surprise!
Thanks for your help!!

How should I decorate my master bedroom?

So, I’m trying to decorate our bedroom (on a shoe string budget).
We are newlyweds with very different styles. My husband is an avid outdoors man and hunter.

While I like the outdoors I don’t want to live in a hunting lodge.

In an effort to keep all of his hunting paraphernalia in one room I’d like to put it all in our bedroom. (keeps it out the parts of the household where guests would be)

He’s got several paintings, drawing and pictures of hunting scenes, two mounted deer heads, one mounted elk (it’s huge) and one turkey tail. Along with some carved ducks.

What I’m thinking is doing it like a 50′s style lounge meets hunting lodge. Reckon along the lines of if Frank Sinatra had a weekend hunting lodge.

I’m thinking putting all of the photos and “heads” on one wall. Maybe paint the wall a silvery pale gray or a pale blue. Either leaving the frames the mismatched woods that they are or painting them all silver or white.

Painting the other parapet either pale blue or maybe white. I thought I could add silver vintage elements (maybe paint some of the wood ducks silver).

Maybe use chocolate auburn as an accent?

Any opinions or suggestions?
Do you think this could look clean?

Does anyone have pictures of examples of how pollution effects animals? Like sixpack soda rings @a ducks neck?

I am doing a presentation on different way pollution things animals and am looking for photos of examples. Excellent examples would be sixpack rings around necks, sea gulls foraging through piles of trash, actual x-rays of foreign objects in animals. anything to show to a class of college students how vital it is to keep the environment clean not only for us but for the health and safety of all the animals around us.
websites would also be helpful.
thanks!
