Fun Family Activities and Games For Easter – Part II

Easter is a huge holiday. The warmer Spring weather, the devout significance, the family get-togethers, and the traditions of the holiday are loved by children and adults alike. Kids like the Easter Bunny and the traditional Easter Egg Hunt, with the likelihood of receiving cool prizes. But with a long weekend and the kids out of school, you may need more actions to keep the small ones busy and entertained. This article has some suggestions for other recreational actions and games to keep kids pleased this Easter Sunday.

Easter Piñata

You can find piñatas in any size, shape, or color combination. They are available for any occasion, and that includes Easter! Your local party supply store is sure to have bunny, egg, or chick shaped piñatas available. You can even make your own piñata in any shape that you would like. Just fill the piñata with Easter candy, such as jelly beans, candy eggs, chocolate bunnies or whatever else you feel is appropriate for your kids. If you are worried about your children overeating or having too much sugar in their diet, try putting some tiny Easter stuffed animals, like plush ducks, plush chicks, or small stuffed bunnies.

The key to an Easter piñata is how you set it up. It wants to be at a safe height to avoid the risk of injury from diminishing candy! Plush toys won’t hurt anyone if they fall from a piñata, but you don’t want to take any risks where children are concerned. Make sure to attach it carefully to something stable so that the piñata itself doesn’t thump down and hurt someone. If you play it safe, the Easter piñata should be lots of fun for everyone.

Pin the Baby Chick on the Egg

Everyone is familiar with the classic game of “pin the tail on the donkey.” This traditional party game can be adapted to many different situations. For an Easter endeavor, try a game of pin the chick on the egg. You won’t need a lot of supplies, just some cardboard and markers or other decorative supplies, and a few plush chicks. Start out by drawing a nice, huge egg on a sturdy cut of cardboard. You can make it fancier by painting the egg or decorating it with tissue paper. Next you have to hang the egg picture. You could tape some string on the back of the cardboard, or use hooks for hanging picture frames. Excellent places to hang the picture of the egg include the back of a door, a basement wall, or a recreation room. Just choose the right location in your household for kids to play. Everlastingly, get a few small, plush chicks and place double-stick tape on their bottoms or beaks. You can double over regular tape or even add Velcro from a local crafts store if you feel like putting it on the egg as well. Now you’re ready for the game!

The rules and goals are the same as the traditional pin the tail on the donkey game. To start, tie a blindfold on the first contestant and spin them around a few times. A cut of cloth, scarf, or a clean dishtowel will work as a blindfold. Now they have to find the egg and pin the chick on top of it. If done accurately, the chick will look like it is hatching out of the egg! The other kids can yell out directions and encouragement as the contestant tries to find the egg. You can use the chicks as prizes, or have a stuffed bunny as the top prize. This game is simple to set up and clean up, and it should keep children (and adults watching) entertained for much of the afternoon.

These two fun and simple Easter actions are sure to please the children in your household this Easter holiday. The adults will have fun watching and there won’t be a lot of stuff to clean up later. Hopefully, everyone will have fun making fond memories. Be sure to have a camera handy! Pleased Easter!

A Drop Is An Ocean [Part 2]

Road rage is a fantastic example of energies sparking off each other, but there are smaller rages happening in our households all of the time.
What is an argument if it is not a swapping of comments triggered by action/reaction, button pushing/reacting to each other’s energies?

v

Energies attract each other like magnetic poles.

v

I have come to accept that *the other* is my mirror. No matter how cool I may appear to me, no matter how my lips may smile, my energy field bounces off yours. For example, when you annoy me, it is because something in you triggers something in me that is *about* me. And, so, except I can stay energetically neutral and in the present-second, I spike – I react, usually negatively – and you and me are locked in a tango that is all too familiar.

v

Many a time, I have found myself in the aftermath of a present-second that should have been inconsequential but did not end well at all.

Why not? My voice was cool. I was cool. My words were not inflammatory and yet there was a blow up.

One minute we were just talking and the next there are doors slamming.

v

Our energy field betrays us time and time again. There is nothing our energy field can do about it.

v

Although we can influence other public up to a point, but only IF the person is open to the thought in the first place, as anyone’s daughter, as anyone’s girl friend or partner, we by now know that we cannot, not truly, alter anyone else’s take on life. We can only try to adjust our own and remember that likes attract likes.

v

The only way to attempt a permanent shift is by checking that we are *in the second* particularly when interacting with a *hard* person or in a stressful second.

v

We need to aim for life *in the second* ALL OF THE TIME and flow through the other’s negativity like the bow of a galleon ploughs through the water [or let it flow over us like water off a duck’s back] but the shift will only take place when we are aware that our heart energy is present even at the loggerheads second, not by feeling victimised, not by shrugging the other off, thereby setting up the next round.

v

Sardonically, life in the second means not reacting to an unpleasant second of which the present second reminds us. Let’s not drink Today out of yesterday’s cup.

v

We are back to the need of life in the present-second, of not allowing our energy field to spike, of not life confronting. All we need is to practice life in the present-second. We need to flow through it, in neutral, instead of opposing it – instead of hunkering down.

v

We only need to practice observing our reactions. Not letting spikes of energy, excitement, apprehension, adrenaline, resentment or whatever *taint* the second.

v

The second we spike, we *touch* energetically. Whatever we touch sticks to us, just like the invisible germs that stick to our hands when we do not wash them carefully.

Whatever sticks to us is what we have to deal with sooner or later, again and again.

Sometimes we end up with a terrible case of gastroenteritis.

Sometimes we end up with yet another argument and having to deal with its aftermath.

Sometimes we end up with one argument too many.

Sometimes we end up with a nervous breakdown, a cancer or a heart attack.

v

Our connection to all others is blatant when we catch a cold from *someone* at the office. It is so simple to accept that strangers sue strangers over passive smoking and that we depend on everyone washing their hands before they prepare our food.

v

And when a killer disease like tuberculosis or a flu endemic make the headlines, even if countries far away, we pay attention. The HIV virus has taught us that we are all together, even if worlds apart, but we drop the connection the minute we delude ourselves into thinking that the skin that keep us all wrapped up and *pleasant * to look at also makes us a truly individual life, an island of self-realization.

v

According to Paul Brunton in his book What Is Karma, “The esoteric interpretation of karma recognizes that a wholly isolated individual is only a creation of our imagination, that each individual’s life is intertwined with all of humanity’s life through ever expanding circles of local, inhabitant, continental and everlastingly planetary extent; that each thought is influenced by the world’s predominant mental atmosphere; and that each action is unconsciously accomplished with the cooperation of the predominant and commanding suggestion given by humanity’s general endeavor.” He adds, “the consequences of what each of us thinks and does flows like a tributary into the larger river of society and there mingles with waters from innumerable other sources […] That is to say *I*, an individual, share in the karma generated by all others, whilst they share in mine.” [1]

Not unlike a storm water out of a pipe, really. Sure, we are all together.

v

One afternoon, as we watched a rainstorm drown the coastline from inside the shelter of a beach cafe, my partner pointed at the sea right in front of us.

“Look at that!” she exclaimed. “One minute that sea is blue, dark blue even, and the next … look! It’s like all tainted.”

She was right. The waves coming in had really become auburn. Their sparkling white crests had become dingy.

“Storm water from the drains on the other side,” interrupted the waitress, as she pointed to a rocky outcrop off to the right.

My partner and I looked at each over our glass of perfect dry white wine.

“Look how it’s diffusion out seawards from waves closest to the coast.”

Sure enough over a matter of minutes auburn water had bled into an ever-expanding area of the sea.

“Hideous. Very nasty,” is all I could comeback, mesmerized by the graphic illustration of what karmic *pollution* force look like in our energy field.

The following day, I went looking for the storm water pipes near the outcrop and, sure enough, though the rain had long stopped, tannin-colored water was subdue meandering through runnels it had cut into the sand on its way to the sea. By then, though, the ocean had processed it all and was back to its normal colors- varied hues of blue and green.Like the ocean, our ego-persona appears to be managing well on the surface. It absorbs. It hides. It deals – up to a certain point. But our ego-personas have fantastic limitations. They only rely on past memories. The past is static and memory is fallible.

v

Should you now feel ready for a charming, cute and quaint DVD through which to pit your understanding of soul vs ego, spiking vs life in the second and separation vs non-separation, I encourage you to view Ratatouille, directed by Brad Bird, Jan Pinkava.

It has all the right ingredients – fantastic verbal and visual wit, a vibrant 3D animation and an dodgy but adorable main character, Remy, the rat.

All films can be deconstructed from a spiritual perspective by those of us who delight in that extra layer but most, like Courageous One, starring Jodie Foster, considered *excellent* in spite of their violence, show case the dark, mechanical side of the universal ego-persona, whilst Ratatouille is simply delightful.

By day, a teacher of Senior English and French in Brisbane, Australia, and, by night, first a novelist of novels and now a novelist of spiritual material, I am on a quest of sorts ? I am incisive for a connection to my soul, right here, right now.
Admittedly, I have an ulterior motive ? quite a strong one at that: I am trying to edit some karma out of my energy field by altering its properties.
This, from me, who a couple of years ago thought about my soul as often as the molecular composition of my body, which was never.
