Question by : Would a mother Mallard Duck attack another mother Ducks Ducklings?
HI, i went to the local pond with my father today and we saw five different litters of ducklings, and there was this one really mean mother duck who had three duckilngs that attacked a duckling of another litter of a different mother duck that also had three ducklings and she attacked one of those ducklings and then went after the mother duck.

So do you think that this is normal mother duck behavior or does it seem wierd that she would do that?

Please Respond,

THANKS!

Best answer:

Answer by stulisa42
I’ve raised Pekins and they usually have a good amount of feathers by that age.Are you sure they are 10 weeks old? They will be fine in a cage or even a cardboard box with a heating pad under one end. Just under one end though, so if they are too hot, they can move to the cooler side. If they are outside, make sure the cage etc is covered and protected from the wind and rain.

Question by mingosaysss: No one will help the farm ducks in my community, what should i do?
Someone dropped off 3 of there farm ducks, wings clipped and everything, to our local pond. I feel horrible about this because they have obviously been hand raised, and dont know how to live in the wild. Ive called several numbers and no one wants to help.

What is next? I would really like to help these animals out.

Best answer:

Answer by dolly
It is illegal to allow domestic ducks to live in the wild as they breed with wild ducks and taint the lines. Not good for some of the rare types. If the police aren’t doing anything try to call the animal shelter for a reference to a rescue or sanctuary for abandoned animals.

Question by kyle: differece in appearence between barrows and common hen goldeneye ducks?

Best answer:

Answer by Baiji-Kite
“Female and male in eclipse plumage closely resemble the Common Goldeneye. Puffy, oval-shaped head, steep forehead and stubby, triangular bill help identify Barrow’s. Adult female’s head is slightly darker than female Common; bill is mostly yellow, except in young females, which may have a yellow band near the tip of the bill. In both plumages, white wing patches visible in flight differ subtly between the two species.”

“Head of Common is more triangular; forehead more sloped; bill longer. Female’s head is slightly paler than female Barrow’s; bill generally all-dark or with yellow tip only; rarely completely dull yellow.”
