This Cackling Goose (Branta hutchinsii), colloquially (and incorrectly) Lesser or Small Canada/Canadian Goose in North America, belongs to the genus Branta of black geese, which contains species with largely black plumage, distinguishing them from the grey Anser species. It is seen here in the Cloisters City Park pond area in Morro Bay, CA 06oct2007. It has been observed at this location for several days now.

Information
The Canadian goose is a species of goose common to America. It is brownish-gray in color with a black neck and head. Canadian geese are famed for their habits of life usually monogamous for life. Canadian geese can be found throughout the United States and Canada.
Canadian geese prefer to nest on dry ground but near water and feeding areas. They eat roots, tubers, foliage, alfalfa, oats, rye, barley, wheat, sorghum and corn. These geese are considred a nuisance on golf courses, beaches, and parks because of large waste messes, general aggression, and territoriality.
